TMC to raise ‘agency misuse’ issue in Parliament | India News

KOLKATA: Trinamool Congress on Wednesday moved a notice to discuss the deteriorating Centre-state relations in the Rajya Sabha and is expected to take up the issue of “misuse of central agencies” against the opposition parties.
CM Mamata Banerjee and party national general secretary Abhishek Banerjee had an informal discussion with the party’s leaders in Lok Sabha and Rajya Sabha-Sudip Bandyopadhyay and Derek O’Brien-to outline important issues that the party wants to raise in the upcoming Parliament session, which starts on the coming Monday and will conclude on April 6.
A TMC leader said that the party wants to highlight issues affecting the public, like how LIC and SBI funds are “at risk”. Trinamool also wants a separate discussion on the price rise, including the latest hike in the household LPG.
The actions of central agencies and weakening of institutions will also be raised by the party in Parliament. Banerjee was among the eight opposition leaders who had written to Prime Minister Narendra Modi on the “witch hunt” against opposition leaders. TMC will also raise the issue of “strengthening the national borders”.
According to the party leaders, Trinamool will also reach out to opposition parties this week to build a broader consensus on the issues.
“The party will speak to the opposition parties in the next few days ahead of the Parliament session,” claimed a senior leader. This, however, comes in the backdrop of TMC losing the Sagardighi bypolls to the Congress-Left candidate, and Mamata Banerjee ruling out any alliance with Congress or the left front against BJP for the upcoming 2024 Lok Sabha elections.
