Karnataka may fund Rs 100 crore revamp of Ram temples | India News

[ad_1]

BENGALURU: Karnataka CM Siddaramaiah is likely to allocate Rs 100 crore for renovation and development of Ram temples across the state in the Feb 16 budget in a perceived attempt to counter BJP’s portrayal of the governing Congress as anti-Hindu and anti-Ram.
BJP stepped up its narrative after AICC president Mallikarjun Kharge and senior Congress leader Sonia Gandhi rejected the invite to the Jan 22 consecration ceremony of Ram Lalla’s idol in Ayodhya.
The planned allocation for temples is also a countermeasure to a BJP’s plan to send 10,000 Ram “bhakts (devotees)” from Karnataka to Ayodhya.
The funding proposal was submitted by the state’s muzrai (temple) department to the CM last week as part of measures to counter the impact of the Ayodhya consecration and thwart BJP’s attempts to reap electoral benefits in the upcoming Lok Sabha polls.
