LUCKNOW: A day after a 25-year-old man was murdered at Union minister Kaushal Kishore’s residence here, shot by a pistol registered in the name of the minister’s son Vikas, local police on Saturday registered a case against Vikas under the Arms Act.
The case was registered after it was found that Vikas’s friends had used his pistol to kill Vinay Srivastava during a brawl, police claimed.
Police said Vikas was not present at home at the time of the crime. His friends had been gambling when they got into an argument. The victim had lost Rs 12,000 and he abruptly stopped the game. Later, a verbal spat ensued, the police claimed.
The three accused – Ajay Rawat (32), Ankit Verma (27) and Shamim alias Baba (21) – had got furious and a fistfight broke out between them and Vinay. Amit took out the pistol from below the bed and as the two other accused held Vinay tightly, he shot him from point-blank range, said the police. The trio was arrested on Friday.
Additional DCP (West Zone) Chiranjeev Nath Sinha said the pistol has been sent for ballistics. It was issued to Kaushal on his own arms licence from Kakori police station. “We have registered an FIR under Section 30 of the Arms Act on complaint of a police sub-inspector against Vikas,” said Sinha.
Police said they are also probing whether Vikas’s friends had stolen the pistol or if he had given it to them.
