JAMMU: Security forces busted a terrorist hideout in Jammu’s Poonch on Thursday, seizing improvised explosive devices (IED) and other bombs from the area barely a month after attacks that felled five soldiers in the area and another five in neighbouring Rajouri.
Official sources said a joint team of the police and army smashed the den at Lower Kasbalari in Poonch’s Mendhar area. “The explosives were later destroyed in a controlled manner in the presence of the village sarpanch and others,” a source said.
Forces have been on high alert to track down terrorists hiding in the Rajouri-Poonch sector after the April 20 and May 5 strikes targeting the army. Seven civilians were also killed by terrorists in two attacks on January 1 and 2 this year.
