India reports 475 new Covid cases, 6 deaths in one day | India News

NEW DELHI: India recorded a spike of 475 coronavirus infections in 24-hour period, according to Union health ministry data released on January 9.
As of Tuesday, India’s active Covid-19 caseload stood at 3,919.
Up until December 5, 2023, the number of daily cases had fallen to double digits; however, cases started to rise as a new variation emerged and the temperature dropped.
With six more deaths reported in 24 hours, three from Karnataka, two from Chhattisgarh, and one from Assam, the total death toll was recorded at 5,33,402.
The number of active Covid-19 cases increased in several states, according to ministry data updated at 8 am on Tuesday.
Total number of 44,481,893 people have recovered from the illness so far, meaning that the country’s recovery rate is 98.81 percent. The current fatality rate is 1.19 percent, according to the health ministry’s website.
The government has advised people not to panic and stated that the recent increase in Covid-19 instances is not reason for alarm. As a precaution, the Center has suggested that individuals with comorbidities use face masks.
A total of 682 cases of the JN.1 sub-variant of Covid-19 have been reported from 12 states across the Country till January 6, according to sources.
JN.1, an Omicron lineage descendant, is categorized by the World Health Organization as a “variant of interest.”
As per ministry website, 220.67 crore doses of Covid vaccines have so far been administered in the country.
The highest number of daily new cases and deaths from Covid-19 were recorded during the Delta wave, which occurred in April and June of 2021. India has already experienced three waves of the virus. At its peak, 414,188 new cases and 3,915 deaths were reported on May 7, 2021.
