Speaker’s ruling not in line with SC judgments, says Sharad Pawar | India News

PUNE: NCP founder Sharad Pawar on Wednesday said that Maharashtra Speaker Rahul Narwekar’s wording in his ruling on the Shiv Sena split had made the case stronger for Uddhav Thackeray when he approaches the Supreme Court against the verdict, reports Anurag Bende.
Pawar was speaking after Narwekar ruled in favour of the CM Eknath Shinde-led Shiv Sena. Pawar indicated that a similar verdict is possible in NCP’s case too.
“The verdict is not in line with constitutional provisions and Supreme Court judgments,” he added.
Pawar said that the Speaker’s post is an institution in itself and everyone must respect it. “However, two days before the verdict, the Speaker met the other side (Eknath Shinde), which was already making statements. We predicted this verdict and when it was finally out, we were not surprised,” Pawar added. Pawar said he would speak more on the subject after going through the written ruling and consulting legal experts.
Pawar said that the apex court has clearly said that the party structure is more important than the legislative party, but Narwekar’s verdict contradicts it. “The Speaker has not disqualified MLAs from either Eknath Shinde’s faction or Uddhav Thackeray’s faction, which shows that he tried to bypass Supreme Court’s past judgments,” Pawar said. Pawar said that MVA and the INDIA front will take this matter to voters. “We will tell them that it is a political decision and not a legal one,” he added.
