Navsharan: Farmer, human rights organisations raise voice, say victimisation of rights activist Navsharan must stop | India News

BATHINDA: The farmer and various left leaning organisations have taken serious note of late playwright Gursharan Singh’ daughter Ms Navsharan Singh being summoned under prevention of money laundering act (PMLA). She was summoned four days ago and was grilled for over 8 hours.
Navsharan Singh, a human rights activist is board member of a trust Aman Biradari being headed by human rights activist Harsh Mander. She was grilled for some money transaction to Aman Biradari and her relations and association with Mander. Aman Biradari is working for the victims of communal violence or the families of those lynched.
Farmer organisation BKU Ekta Ugrahan president Joginder Singh Ugrahan said that Dr. Navsharan, as a writer, democratic rights activist, staunch supporter of people’s struggles and the daughter of renowned playwright late Gursharan Singh, is being targeted by the central government for speaking out the truth. In continuation with the series of attack on intellectuals and democratic rights activists across the country, an attempt was made to intimidate and harass her in the name of an inquiry. She has been playing a key role as an active public intellectual in the field of democratic rights for almost two-and-a-half decades. She was one of the leading supporters of the historic peasant struggle at the borders of Delhi. The nefarious attempts to silence the democratic voices in support of the working people must stop”.
Punjab lok sabhyacharak manch president Amolak Singh and general secretary Kanwaljit Khanna said the people’ movements of Punjab are standing firm with Navsharan and want this victimisation to stop.
Navsharan Singh was not available for comments but her sister Dr Areet Singh, who retired as Director Health Services Punjab said that she was called under PMLA to make inquiries about the working of Aman Biradari. Everything is transparent and crystal clear as this organisation is working for the victims of communal violence.
