Rahul Gandhi asks PM Modi to say something after China releases new map with Indian territories | India News

NEW DELHI: Congress leader Rahul Gandhi on Wednesday demanded Prime Minister Narendra Modi‘s statement after China released a “standard” map of the country which showed Arunachal Pradesh and Aksai Chin as part of its territory.
Rahul Gandhi once again alleged that the Prime Minister’s assertion that not an inch of the land in Ladakh has been taken over by China is not true and that the map issue was very serious.
“I have been saying for years that what the PM said, that not one inch of land was lost in Ladakh, is a lie. The entire Ladakh knows that China has transgressed. This map issue is very serious. They have taken away the land. PM should say something about it,” Rahul Gandhi said while leaving for Karnataka.Meanwhile, China’s 2023 standard map released on Monday drew a strong response with the government warning China that such steps would only complicate the resolution of the boundary question.
The external affairs ministry lodged a strong protest through diplomatic channels with the Chinese side. Jaishankar said showing Indian territory in its own map was an old habit of China’s.
China has in the recent past, on several occasions, also renamed villages in Arunachal Pradesh, an Indian state it claims as part of south Tibet, and has protested visits to the state by Indian leaders.

The timing of the latest release is suspect comes just before Chinese President Xi Jinping’s visit to India for the G20 summit and days after his “informal conversation” with PM Narendra Modi on the margins of the Brics summit in Johannesburg.
