Sandeshkhali case: ED custody of Sheikh Shahjahan extended till April 13 | India News

NEW DELHI: The suspended Trinamool Congress (TMC) leader, Shahjahan Sheikh, has been sent to Enforcement Directorate custody until April 13 in the Sandeshkhali ED assault case.
The ED on Monday, presented Sheikh Shahjahan in the Kolkata Sessions Court.
The investigation revealed illicit financial transactions in the shrimp import-export business following which two Enforcement Case Information Reports (ECIR) were filed against him.One ECIR was linked to alleged ration (PDS) corruption, originating from a letter by former Bengal food minister Jyotiprioryo Mallik while the other focused on unlawful activities in export-import transactions, including allegations of forced land acquisition.
ED on Saturday arrested Sandeshkhali accused after interrogation in a Prevention of Money Laundering Act case. The central agency interrogated Shahjahan at the Basirhat Sub Correctional Home in North 24 Parganas district.
Shahjahan was first arrested by the Basirhat district police in February on charges of planning and orchestrating the attack on ED and CAPF teams on January 5. Later, he was handed over to the CID of the Bengal police after the latter took over the investigation, before the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) took him into custody following an order from the Calcutta high court.
