NEW DELHI: The citizen financial cyber fraud reporting and management system — launched earlier by the Indian Cyber Coordination Committee, or I4C, to enable immediate reporting of financial frauds and to stop siphoning off of funds by the fraudsters — has resulted in the registration of 12.8 lakh cyber crime complaints since its inception and saved more than Rs 930 crore in over 3.8 lakh complaints, junior home minister Ajay Kumar Mishra told the Lok Sabha on Tuesday.
Replying to a question in the Lok Sabha, Mishra said more than 2.45 lakh SIM cards and 42,000 IMEIs, as reported by the police authorities, have been blocked. Also, cyber forensic-cum-training laboratories have been commissioned in 33 States/UTs so far, and 24,600 law enforcement personnel, judicial officers and prosecutors provided training on cyber crime awareness, investigation, forensics etc, he added.
The ministry of home affairs has set up the ‘Indian Cyber Crime Coordination Centre’ (I4C) to deal with all types of cyber crime in the country in a coordinated and comprehensive manner. Mishra shared that 7 joint cyber coordination teams (JCCTs) were constituted for Mewat, Jamtara, Ahmedabad, Hyderabad, Chandigarh, Visakhapatnam, and Guwahati under I4C, based upon cyber crime hotspots/ areas having multi jurisdictional issues, by onboarding states/UTs to enhance the coordination framework among the law enforcement agencies. MHA has provided financial assistance to the tune of Rs. 122.24 crores under the ‘Cyber Crime Prevention against Women and Children (CCPWC)’ scheme, to the states/UTs for capacity building. So far, cyber forensic-cum-training laboratories have been commissioned in 33 States/UTs and over 24,600 LEA personnel, judicial officers and prosecutors trained on cyber crime awareness, investigation, forensics etc.
