Northern Army Commander speaks of veterans’ role in strengthening security grid | India News



JAMMU: A day after Union home minister Amit Shah maintained that a strong 360-degree security grid would be formed to wipe out terrorism from Jammu region, the Northern Army Commander, Lt-Gen Upendra Dwivedi, emphasised upon the role of ex-servicemen in the Active Security Strategy, aimed at tightening security grid in the area.
Addressing a gathering of veterans on the occasion of Armed Forces Veterans Day in Rajouri, Lt-Gen Dwivedi, General Officer Commanding-in-Chief, Northern Command, also mentioned about the Army’s recommendations of forming an ex-servicemen belt (loyal second tier) in areas bordering the Line of Control and the International Boundary.
Talking about various initiatives undertaken for the welfare of ex-servicemen, he referred to the appointment of nodal officers to expedite the grievance redressal procedure, development of Army Welfare Housing Organization project in J&K as well as the increase in ex gratia to NOK from Rs 5 lakh to Rs 25 lakh, defence PRO (Jammu), Lt-Col Devender Anand.
The Veterans Day is celebrated on January 14 every year to acknowledge their valour and sacrifice in the line of duty. More than 2,500 veterans had gathered in Rajouri on Saturday to mark the occasion at the programme organised by the White Knight Corps of the Northern Command. Gallantry awardees, veer naris and disabled veterans were also felicitated by Lt-Gen Dwivedi on the occasion.
The Air Force Station, Jammu, too, marked the day, with Air Officer Commanding G S Bhullar appreciating the spirit of veterans. He assured to provide all kinds of administrative support to pensioners to register on the online platform System for Pension Administration (Raksha) (SPARSH) through Station SPARSH Cell dedicated to pensioners.
