Lok Sabha: Will keep asking questions, disqualification or jail won’t silence me: Rahul Gandhi | India News

[ad_1]

NEW DELHI: Rahul Gandhi in his first address to the media on Saturday, a day after getting disqualified from Lok Sabha, said that his voice cannot be silenced by disqualifying him as a Member of Parliament.

Congress leader’s disqualification from Lok Sabha as a MP came after the Surat court on Thursday sentenced him to two years imprisonment in a defamation case over his ‘Modi surname’ remark made in 2019 during an election rally in Karnataka. Rahul had made the ‘how come all the thieves have Modi as the common surname’ remark in April 2019, at a Lok Sabha election rally at Kolar in Karnataka. The criminal defamation case against Rahul was filed by BJP MLA from Surat West Purnesh Modi.
The court sentenced Gandhi to two years in jail in a criminal defamation case over his “Modi surname” remarks at a 2019 poll rally in Karnataka. However, the court also granted him bail and suspended the sentence for 30 days to allow him to appeal in a higher court.
