JAMMU: Jammu divisional commissioner Ramesh Kumar and IGP (Jammu Zone) Anand Jain on Saturday visited border villages affected by Pakistani shelling and assessed losses caused to property, a day after two BSF personnel and a woman were injured in unprovoked firing and mortar shelling by Pakistan Rangersin Arnia sector of the international border in Jammu.Meanwhile, BSF registered a protest at an hour-long commander-level Flag Meeting at the Border Outpost Octroi in Suchetgarh, officials said.
The latest cross-border shelling, which began late Thursday, was the second such ceasefire violation by Pakistan in 10 days and the fifth overall since the truce took effect on February 25, 2021. Earlier on October 17, two BSF personnel were injured in a similar breach of truce in the Arnia sector.
During their visit to the border villages, Divisional Commissioner Kumar and the Jammu IGP were accompanied by Jammu SSP, SP (Hqrs), SDM Rs Pura and other top officers. Kumar interacted with the aggrieved families at Bhulla Chak village and assessed the damage caused by the shelling while instructing the Jammu deputy commissioner to provide relief to the victims after thorough inspection.
The officers also spoke with PRI members and other residents at Treva and inquired about the developmental requirements and other issues faced by them. Locals informed the officials about several issues including the requirement of additional bunkers and checking the encroachment of waterbodies.
