BENGALURU: Former Karnataka CM Jagadish Shettar refuted reports suggesting that his return to BJP was contingent upon the promise of a ticket for the upcoming Lok Sabha polls.
Denying any conditions placed before BJP leadership, Shettar said, “I joined BJP unconditionally. I’ve come back home happily. I will take up any role that the party leadership assigns me in the future.”
Earlier speculation had hinted that Shettar might secure a ticket to contest Lok Sabha elections from either Dharwad, Haveri, or Belagavi.
However, Shettar refrained from blaming Congress for his shift, expressing gratitude for the respect he received during his association with the party.
Responding to allegations that he had betrayed Congress’ trust, Shettar remarked, “I am not blaming anyone. My joining Congress helped them gain more seats in north Karnataka. When I joined Congress, a new atmosphere was created. It is a known fact.”
Explaining his return to BJP in nine months, Shettar said, “I have come back to my home. There was an insistence from BJP workers and state leadership. This is my house. We built the party. I came back in keeping with the wishes of Karnataka BJP cadre.”
Regarding possible return of ex-BJP leader Laxman Savadi, who had quit BJP ahead of state polls, Shettar said, “I could not contact him. I will soon get in touch with him.” Shettar also dismissed the possibility of INDIA bloc, comprising his former party Congress, working in Karnataka.
