Grass: 2 cops report to court 30 minutes late, ordered to cut grass as punishment | India News

CHHATRAPTI SAMBHAJINAGAR: Had they not let the grass grow under their feet, they wouldn’t have found themselves cutting it. A constable & a head constable from Manvat police station in Maharashtra’s Parbhani district were recently tasked with trimming grass as a disciplinary penalty for arriving 30 minutes late to a holiday court.
According to senior officers, the two policemen were part of a night patrol that detained two men for roaming around suspiciously in Manvat early on October 22, a Sunday.The two detainees were scheduled to be produced before the holiday court at 11am.

Upset by the unusual punishment, the policemen reported the matter to their superiors. A detailed report has been sent to judiciary for appropriate action.

However, the policemen, along with the suspects, reached the court by 11.30am, drawing the ire of the judicial magistrate first class

Parbhani SP in-charge Yashwant Kale confirmed the incident. “After it was brought to our notice, a detailed report, along with the constables’ statements, was sent to the judiciary for appropriate action.” Statements from three other constables who witnessed the incident have also been recorded. Manvat police station inspector Deepak Dantulwar confirmed the diary entry, but declined to elaborate.
