Won’t tolerate insult to Savarkar: Uddhav Thackeray on Rahul Gandhi’s remark | India News

NASHIK: Shiv Sena (UBT) chief Udhhav Thackeray on Sunday cautioned disqualified Congress MP Rahul Gandhi against insulting “our idol” Veer Savarkar. His warning followed Rahul’s comments at a press conference Saturday in Delhi, where he said: “My name is not Savarkar, my name is Gandhi and Gandhi does not offer an apology to anyone.”
At a rally in Malegoan, Thackeray said his party is in alliance with Congress, but that doesn’t mean it would put up with adverse remarks against the freedom fighter. “Savarkar is our idol and his insult will not be tolerated,” he said. Thackeray went on to attack the Election Commission, PM Narendra Modi and the Shiv Sena, saying there would be no democracy in the country if the 2024 Lok Sabha election returns BJP to office.
“I appeal to the people to unite against BJP and overthrow its government at the Centre and state in the upcoming elections,” Thackeray said.
He accused EC of giving the Shiv Sena’s name and symbol to the rival faction of Eknath Shinde despite Sena (UBT) submitting necessary documents. He alleged that the Shinde government is anti-farmer and not providing relief for crop loss due to unseasonal rain.
