Lalthansanga faced defeat in the 2013 and 2018 assembly elections, losing to then CM Lal Thanhawla of Congress and Mizo National Front’s (MNF) Lalchamliana, respectively, . The law of averages said he was due for a victory – and the nomination committee of Zoram People’s Movement (ZPM) selected him to contest against MNF chief and CM Zoramthanga with the hope that he may get lucky in this year’s assembly elections. And lucky he did get, defeating Zoramthanga on the latter’s home turf of Aizawl East I on Monday.
