US National Security Advisor Jake Sullivan postpones India visit amid tensions in Middle East | India News

NEW DELHI: The National Security Advisor of the United States, Jake Sullivan, has postponed his visit to India this week due to ongoing turn of events in the Middle East.
NSA Sullivan aims to conduct the Initiative for Critical and Emerging Technology (iCET) annual review at the soonest possible time, as stated by a spokesperson from the US embassy.
“Due to ongoing events in the Middle East, NSA Sullivan has postponed his trip to India this week. NSA Sullivan looks forward to holding the Initiative for Critical and Emerging Technology (iCET) annual review at the next earliest possible date and remains personally committed to advancing our deeply consequential and multifaceted partnership with India,” the spokesperson stated.
Meanwhile, US President Joe Biden also looking forward to the upcoming meeting of the Quad leaders.’
“The President looks forward to the next meeting of the Quad leaders and continuing our efforts with India to deliver results for the American and Indian people, as well as our partners, in support of our shared vision for a free, open, and prosperous Indo-Pacific,” the US embassy spokersperson said.
US President Biden’s top national security aide, Sullivan, was scheduled to visit New Delhi on April 17, following a previous postponement due to global crises.
The iCET annual review meeting was rescheduled amidst tensions in Ukraine and West Asia. In May 2022, Prime Minister Narendra Modi and President Biden jointly launched iCET to enhance cooperation in new technologies. iCET is overseen by India’s NSCS and the US NSC.
Defence Secretary Giridhar Aramane emphasised the strong defense partnership between India and the US at the INDUS-X Summit. He highlighted the iCET initiatives, including the Defence Innovation Bridge to foster collaboration between US and Indian startups.
The US State Department spokesperson, Matthew Miller, reiterated America’s strong ties with India, underscoring India’s importance as a strategic partner. The ongoing collaboration and shared initiatives aim to strengthen the relationship between the two nations.
“So India is the world’s largest democracy, it is an important strategic partner of the United States, and I expect that to remain true,” Miller said in a routine press interaction on Monday.
