NEW DELHI: UPI services were introduced in Sri Lanka and Mauritius in a virtual event attended by Prime Minister Narendra Modi and leaders from both nations.
“Today is a special day for 3 friendly countries of Indian Ocean Region,” said PM Modi.
“UPI is implementing new responsibilities of uniting partners with India,” he added.
Mauritian PM Pravind Jugnauth and Sri Lanka’s President Ranil Wickremesinghe were also part of the ceremony.
It allows Indian travelers to use UPI for transactions in Sri Lanka and Mauritius and vice versa for Mauritian travelers in India.
This comes following UPI became officially available at the iconic Eiffel Tower in Paris, France.
