Lucknow: In another blow to jailed Samajwadi Party member and former UP minister Azam Khan, the state cabinet on Tuesday revoked another land lease given to Khan’s Jauhar Trust for alleged violation of the conditions of the agreement. Before this, 3.24-acre land given to the Jauhar Research Centre had been seized.
Giving approval to a proposal, the UP cabinet decided to take back the building and land of the Murtaza Higher Secondary School, given on lease by the Secondary Education Department to Maulana Mohammad Jauhar Trust in Rampur. The land, on which the offices of the education department were situated, was given to the Trust on a lease of 30 years at a cost of Rs 100 per year.
“The decision was taken due to violations of the conditions of the lease agreement. After reviewing the report submitted by a four-member inquiry committee formed by the Rampur DM, the government has decided to reclaim the land and building. The ownership of this 41,181sqft land will be transferred back to the Secondary Education Department by the state government,” said spokesperson and finance minister Suresh Khanna.
