Tribal Lands: BJP planning to give away tribal lands to big corporates: Congress chief Kharge

RAIPUR/NEW DELHI: Stoking the self-respect of tribals coupled with a promise of security and welfare, Congress chief Mallikarjun Kharge Wednesday attacked BJP for “eyeing the jungle and land of the STs”, and alleging it is so averse to weaker communities that Prime Minister Narendra Modi did not invite the two SC/ST Presidents for the inauguration of the new Parliament.
Kharge addressed election rallies in the tribal heartland of Sukma, and then in Mahasamund in Chhattisgarh.
Kharge said the Baghel government protected the ancestral property of STs for over five years and fulfilled poll promises, and the party should be re-elected to continue its pro-tribal, pro-poor governance in the state. He warned that BJP is looking to gift away the ‘jal, jungle, zameen’ of the forest-dwelling communities to big capitalists like Adani. “The tribals are the original inhabitants of the land, and BJP snatches our land and gives it to the rich. That is the reason why rich are getting richer and the poor poorer in the BJP regime. Fifty per cent of wealth in India is controlled by just 94 persons,” he said.
In a no-holds barred attack, Kharge said the Modi government did not invite President Droupadi Murmu to the inauguration of the new Parliament building since she is from the ST community, while then President Ram Nath Kovind was kept away from the foundation-laying ceremony of the building earlier as he was an “achhoot (untouchable)”.
