LUCKNOW: A video went viral after lawyer Umesh Pal murder case showing a burly assailant, barely out of his teens, coming out of his SUV and firing at him. Another video that surfaced a few days later showed the same attacker chasing and firing at Umesh Pal multiple times at point blank range as the latter ran towards a narrow passage towards his house.
This was 20-year-old Mohammed Asad, the third son of mafia-turned-politician, claimed police There was no criminal case against him before the Umesh Pal murder case, but after this Asad was carrying Rs 5 lakh reward as he, along with four other accused, was on the run after the murder.
Police, however, say that he was leading the Atiq Gang since last year after both his elder brothers — Ali and Umar — went to jail in different cases. His two other brothers are minors and at present are staying at a juvenile home as their mother Shaista, an accused in Umesh Pal murder case, is also on the run.
Asad completed class XII this year from a well-known Lucknow school. He wanted to study law abroad but was not granted a passport due to his family’s background.
He loved horses and car racing but those close to the family say that he had anger issues. A few years ago, when he was in a Prayagraj school, Asad assaulted his teacher after the team led by him lost a tug-of-war match, they say. However, no police complaint was filed. He eventually couldn’t clear the class X board at his school and was shifted to Lucknow.
He was initially named as ‘Atiq’s son’ in the FIR, but viral videos purportedly showing him running and opening fire, gave away his identity. Soon, his old videos in which he was seen trying his hands at guns went viral. His 50-day run eventually ended by guns, just two days before he would have turned 21.
