During the previous Mizoram Assembly election, the Indian National Congress (INC) secured victory in the Thorang constituency. In the 2018 election, Thorang witnessed an 86.66% voter turnout. Zodintluanga Ralte of INC emerged victorious, securing 4499 votes, while R. Rohmingliana of MNF came in second with 3259 votes.

Rohmingliana of MNF by a margin of 1,240 votes. R. Rohmingliana secured 3,259 votes, while Zodintluanga Ralte received 4,499 votes, with a vote percentage of 40.12%.
