MUMBAI: After a gap of 10 months and intervention by the high court, the city police on Wednesday registered an actor’s complaint of rape and outraging the modesty of woman against industrialist Sajjan Jindal who had allegedly tried to sexually assault her in his penthouse.
The JSW Group chairman, against whom the Mumbai police have registered the FIR, said on Sunday that the rape allegations against him are “false and baseless”.
“Mr Sajjan Jindal denies these false and baseless allegations. He is committed to providing full cooperation throughout the investigation. As the investigation is ongoing, we will refrain from commenting further at this stage. We kindly request you to respect the privacy of the family,” said a statement issued on behalf of Jindal in his personal capacity.
The police registered the FIR on Wednesday after the complainant moved the Bombay high court saying the police were not entertaining her complaint. She withdrew her petition after police assured the court that they would register a case. The complainant approached the police in February this year.
