MUMBAI: Amid concerns the Congress party’s unhappiness with Shiv Sena (UBT) leader Sanjay Raut’s statement that his party would contest 23 of the 48 Lok Sabha seats, party chief Uddhav Thackeray cleared the air and said he would not allow any problems within the alliance and seat sharing talks would proceed smoothly.
Clarifying that there were no problems with the Congress party, Thackeray said, “Both Raut and I spoke to Congress president Mallikarjun Kharge and party leader Rahul Gandhi during the INDIA alliance meeting in Delhi. We have not yet received a proposal from the Congress. Once we do, we will speak to the senior leaders in Delhi. Until then, one cannot speak on this issue,” said Thackeray.
Thackeray was speaking at a press conference after the entry of Sanjog Waghere, former Pimpri Chinchwad mayor and leader of the Ajit Pawar camp of the NCP, into Uddhav Thackeray’s party.
Thackeray said that seat-sharing talks were going well between the Shiv Sena (UBT) and Sharad Pawar’s NCP. “Most of the issues have been resolved,” he said.
He said talks were also on with Prakash Ambedkar’s Vanchit Bahujan Aghadi with whom the party had earlier entered into an alliance. “Talks are on with the Vanchit Bahujan Aghadi. No formula has come from their side so far. But within two-three days, Sanjay Raut and other leaders will meet. We are thinking of holding a joint meeting of the Congress, NCP, Sena and VBA.”
Thackeray also said that the government may hold the Lok Sabha polls before April 30. “As per my information, the elections may be held before April 30 because I have heard that someone has told the BJP that if it is held before then, it would favour them,” he said.
