Retail inflation cools to 5.02% in September, back within RBI’s comfort zone

NEW DELHI: The retail inflation for September dipped to 5.02% from 6.83% in July owing to further easing of prices of vegetables, data released by government showed.
With this, the inflation has now again come within the Reserve Bank of India’s comfort zone threshold of 6% after two straight months of breaching it.

In July, the inflation had skyrocketed after a sharp prices in prices of food, especially tomatoes, across the country.
It eased to 6.83% in August amid cooling of prices.
The previous low was in June this year when the reading stood at 4.87 per cent.
According to the data released by the National Statistical Office (NSO), the inflation in the food basket came down to 6.56 per cent in September from 9.94 per cent in the preceding month.
Meanwhile, India’s industrial production increased by 10.3 per cent in August, according to the official data.
Factory output measured in terms of the Index of Industrial Production (IIP) had contracted by 0.7 per cent in August 2022.
