JAMMU: Three persons died while 17 others, including two children and three women, were injured when the minibus they were travelling in skidded off the road and plunged into a 300ft-deep gorge in Jammu and Kashmir’s Rajouri district on Monday. Three of those injured were stated to be critical.
“The accident took place around 11 am at Kainchi Morh when the driver of the minibus — on its way to Rajouri from Kotranka — lost control of the vehicle while negotiating a blind curve,” said an official.
A rescue operation was launched and 20 injured passengers were evacuated to the Rajouri Government Medical College & Associated Hospital, where three were declared “brought dead”. Medical superintendent Mehmood H Bajar said that the remaining 17 were under treatment.
“The deceased were identified as Abdul Rashid (34) of Hubbi Kandi, Mohd Shabir (40) of Budhal and Mohd Azam (32) of Draaj Budhal. The condition of three of the injured, including two children — a four-year-old girl and a two-year-old boy — is critical,” Dr Bajar said.
Police registered a case and launched a probe.
