Railways cancels bidding for Delhi, Ahmedabad stations’ revamp | India News

[ad_1]

NEW DELHI: Seven months after the Union Cabinet approved Rs 10,000 crore for revamp of New Delhi, Ahmedabad and Mumbai’s Chhatrapati Shivaji terminus stations, the plan to redevelop the first two are back to square one.
The rail land development authority has cancelled the bidding process as the lowest bidders had quoted prices, which were substantially above the railways‘ estimates and were not found justified.
Sources said the RLDA will soon re-invite the bids for these two projects while it has awarded the CST redevelopment project in Mumbai to Ahluwalia Contracts at Rs 2,450 crore. The agency is analysing the reasons of getting higher bids in detail.
TOI on Wednesday reported the cancellation of the bids for these projects.
Sources said railway minister Ashwini Vaishnaw will soon hold a meeting on the New Delhi station redevelopment project and similar deliberations will also be held on the Ahmedabad project. The possibility of the railways seeking the approval from the Cabinet once again after reassessing the cost of the projects cannot be ruled out, sources said.
