RAIPUR: Chhattisgarh chief minister Bhupesh Baghel, Congress state in-charge Kumari Selja, few ministers and other party functionaries staged a silent protest at state capital protesting against Congress leader Rahul Gandhi’s disqualification from the Parliament and the alleged ‘political conspiracy’ by the Centre.
The protests took place in other parts of the state as well, after Gujarat High Court refused to stay Gandhi’s conviction in defamation case over his ‘Modi surname’ comments.
Chief minister Bhupesh Baghel, during the protest said, “As per the directions of AICC, Congress observed Silent Satyagrah across the country and Chhattisgarh Congress also staged the silent protest in all district headquarters. The way people’s voice is being silenced and democracy is being crushed in the country, it’s deplorable that Rahul ji’s disqualification took place and his residence was evacuated. Slamming the decisions, Congress observed silent protest in thousands of number today with special presence by Selja ji, PCC chief Mohan Markam and Vidhan Sabha speaker Charandas Mahant ji.”
He said that Congress will always stand for democracy and continue its fight.
“Those in Centre are nervous after Rahul Gandhi’s successful Bharat Jodo abhiyan and the election results in different states have increased their anxiety. That’s why the voice Rahul ji is raising is being silenced,” Baghel said.
Congress leaders, ministers, MLAs and party workers staged protest in large number at Gandhi ground in Raipur and wore a black mask as a symbol of protest.
