“India became free of British rule on August 15, 1947; however, with the sweetness of freedom came also the trauma of partition. In memory of the struggles and sacrifices of our people, August 14 is observed as Partition Horrors Remembrance Day”.
“The pain of partition can never be forgotten. Millions were displaced and lost their lives due to mindless hate and violence. Let us, on this day, remember the horrors of partition and always work for unity and integrity of the society and country”.
It was on August 14, 2021 that the Prime Minister Narendra Modi had announced August 14 as Partition Remembrance Day outlining the pain and trauma the people had to suffer at the time of partition 76 years ago. This year it is the 2nd anniversary of naming August 14 as the Partition Remembrance Day.
The historians, peace activists term the partition as the most tragic moment in the history of sub-continent when lakhs were killed and millions were displaced. They say it would have been better had the bloodshed avoided in anyway and there would had been smooth migration as per the choice of the people to which side they wanted to settle.
