RANCHI: Hemant Soren recorded and released a video message minutes before his arrest by ED in a land scam case late Wednesday, terming the action “only a pause in the struggle called life” and vowing to “fight on”. The former Jharkhand CM quoted Hindi poet Shiv Mangal Singh Suman to articulate his resolve to keep fighting against the “oppression” by the Narendra Modi govt through central agencies.
“Yah ek veeram hai, jeevan mahasangram hai, har pal lada hoon, har pal ladunga, par samjhaute ki bheekh main loonga nahi (This is only a pause in the struggle called life, have fought each moment and will fight on. But will never beg for compromise… I will not accept defeat. Jai Jharkhand!),” the JMM leader said.
According to Soren, “feudal powers” unable to tolerate a tribal CM are working against him. “Under a conspiracy, ED is going to arrest me. They spent the entire day in the name of questioning and accused me of owning a plot of land that cannot be sold or purchased as it is a bhuinhari (plot owned by tribal family) plot and took me into custody when courts have closed for the day.”
Soren stressed that being the son of tribal activist and JMM patriarch Shibu Soren, “struggle was in his blood”.
Meanwhile, a bandh called by several tribal organisations was called off Thursday after an appeal from JMM leadership. JMM workers stayed off the streets in Ranchi.
