Parliament security breach serious issue, everyone should avoid squabbling over it: PM Modi | India News

NEW DELHI: Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Sunday said Parliament security breach is a serious issue and it cannot be underestimated.
In his first remarks since the December 13 incident, PM Modi said the Parliament security breach is painful and a matter of concern. He called for no squabbling over the issue amid the opposition’s protests over it in Parliament.
“Efforts should also be made to look for a solution with collective spirit.Everyone should avoid squabbling over such an issue,” he said in an interview to a Hindi daily.
The Prime Minister said probe agencies are investigating the incident and taking stringent measures.

“The gravity of the incident which happened in Parliament should not be underestimated. The Speaker has also been taking necessary steps with all seriousness,” he added.
Earlier this week, two persons jumped into the Lok Sabha chamber from the visitors’ gallery and sprayed yellow colour smoke when the Zero Hour proceedings were going on. They were pinned down by some MPs present in the House.

Delhi Police have till now arrested six persons in connection with its probe into the security breach. The accused have told the police officials that they explored self-immolation and distribution of pamphlets before settling on the plan to jump into the Lok Sabha chamber with smoke canisters.
A high-powered committee has been formed to review various aspects of security in the Parliament complex. This committee is in addition to a CRPF director general headed panel which is investigating the incident.

On Saturday, Lok Sabha Speaker Om Birla wrote to all MPs over the December 13 incident and said it is a matter of ‘great concern’ for all.
“The unfortunate incident that took place inside the House on 13 December, 2023 is a matter of grave concern for all of us. We expressed our collective concern over this incident in the House and on the same day. Discussed with the leaders of all parties on measures to take in order to strengthen the security arrangements in Parliament,” he said in his letter to Lok Sabha members.
