In a video message released earlier in the day, before his interaction with reporters, Chouhan said: “I was never a contender for the chief minister’s post, neither earlier, nor now.As a worker, whatever work is given to me by the party, I will implement with my strength and capability. Modiji is our leader and working with him I have always felt pride and happiness. I thank the people of the state again.”
Chouhan’s video message came even as all eyes are on Delhi, where BJP’s central leadership will decide the new chief ministers of MP, Rajasthan and Chhattisgarh. Union ministers Narendra Singh Tomar, Prahlad Singh Patel and Jyotiraditya Scindia, all of whom are aspirants for the top post, are in the national capital as Parliament is in session. BJP national general secretary Kailash Vijayvargiya and state party president VD Sharma are also in Delhi.
Later in the day, Chouhan told reporters that he’d rather head for Chhindwara. “I will not go to Delhi. Tomorrow, I am going to Chhindwara where we could not win any of the seven assembly seats,” he said. “My pledge is that BJP will win all 29 Lok Sabha seats and a garland of 29 lotus flowers of total victory will be given to PM Narendra Modi ji, so that he can become the PM again. Winning all 29 Lok Sabha seats in the state is my next target,” he added.
In his statement, Chouhan said he is extremely fortunate that he is a worker of BJP who got an opportunity to work under the leadership of PM Modi to build a ‘glorious, proud, prosperous and strong nation’. “I am only an element in the construction of that glorious India. I have full belief that under the leadership of Narendra Modi ji, India will lead the world. And will show the world the path of peace. I always dedicated myself as a worker for the fulfilment of this mission. I am thankful to the people of MP with all my heart,” he said.
