No Alliance with Congress? Kejriwal Asserts AAP Will Win All 7 Lok Sabha Seats in Delhi | India News

NEW DELHI: Chief minister Arvind Kejriwal on Sunday asserted that people of Delhi will give all seven Lok Sabha seats to Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) in the coming elections, practically ruling out possibility of a tie-up with Congress in the national capital.
Addressing a gathering in Punjab’s Tarn Taran, Kejriwal said: “People of Delhi have decided to give all 7 Lok Sabha seats to AAP …if people of Punjab give all 13 seats to AAP too, it will strengthen the Bhagwant Mann government and the Centre won’t dare to block any funds for the state.”
Earlier, sources said that two parties were discussing a possible 4:3 seat-sharing formula for Delhi, wherein Congress would contest one more seat than AAP.
Kejriwal’s remarks come a day after he said that AAP will contest all 13 seats in Punjab and 1 in Chandigath on its own, making it clear that there will be no seat-sharing arrangement with INDIA bloc ally Congress.
“For Lok Sabha elections, Punjab has 13 seats and one from Chandigarh – a total of 14 seats. In the next 10-15 days, AAP will declare its candidates in all of these 14 seats. You [supporters] have to make AAP sweep all these 14 seats with majority,” the Delhi chief minister said at a rally on Saturday.
Though AAP and Congress contested the recent Chandigarh mayoral polls together, the two parties have not been able to agree to a seat-sharing deal for 2024 Lok Sabha polls in several states.
AAP has stressed that it is firmly with the INDIA bloc but has also been unilaterally announcing its Lok Sabha candidates in different states.
Earlier this week, expressing dissatisfaction over lingering seat-sharing talks with Congress, AAP national general secretary (organisation) Sandeep Pathak declared his party’s Lok Sabha candidates on three seats in Assam.
Before that, Kejriwal during his Gujarat visit in January declared Chaitar Vasava as the AAP candidate in the Bharuch Lok Sabha seat in the state.
The Kejriwal-led party has expressed concern over the pace at which the seat-sharing talks are taking place and has urged the INDIA bloc parties, especially Congress, to move fast since there is not much time left for Lok Sabha preparations.
AAP’s decision to go solo in Punjab and Delhi also comes on the heels of a similar move by Trinamool Congress supremo Mamata Banerjee, who announced the party’s decision to contest alone in West Bengal.
The TMC chief had also cited failed seat-sharing talks with the Congress for her decision to go it alone in the Lok Sabha polls.
