NEW DELHI: The National Investigation Agency (NIA) on Monday carried out searches at 13 locations in five districts of Kashmir Valley, in a case related to the hatching of conspiracy, both physical and in cyberspace, by proscribed terrorist outfits to execute violent attacks in Jammu and Kashmir with sticky bombs, IEDs and small arms.
The latest set of raids in Anantnag, Srinagar, Pulwama, Shopian and Budgam districts of J&K are the third to be carried out this month in J&K in the instant case — RC-05/2022/NIA/Jammu registered by NIA in June last year — and fifth in all J&K terror cases being handled by NIA. Altogether, 68 locations have been searched by NIA across the Union territory in two separate cases, over the past fortnight.
According to an NIA statement, the agency seized incriminating material and documents in “extensive” searches on Monday at 13 locations of sympathizers, cadres, hybrid terrorists and overground workers (OGWs) linked with the newly-formed offshoots and affiliates of several proscribed Pak-backed terror organisations, including Lashkar-e-Taiba (LeT), Jaish-e-Mohammed (JeM), Hizb-ul-Mujahideen (HM), Al-Badr, Al-Qaeda, etc.
The raids, said NIA, were part of the ongoing investigations into the terror conspiracy case, involving the activities of OGWs and cadres in support of various newly-launched outfits, such as The Resistance Front (TRF), United Liberation Front Jammu & Kashmir (ULFJ&K), Mujahideen Gazwat-ul-Hind (MGH), Jammu & Kashmir Freedom Fighters (JKFF), Kashmir Tigers, PAFF, among others.
PAFF had claimed responsibility for last month’s attack on an Army truck, involving an IED blast and stick bomb, in which five Army personnel were killed.
Besides terrorist and violent activities, the cadres and workers of these new outfits were found to be involved in the collection and distribution of sticky bombs/magnetic bombs, IEDs, funds, narcotics and arms/ammunition. The larger conspiracy, NIA said, was to commit acts of terror and violence in J&K by radicalising local youths and mobilising and deploying OGWs.
NIA investigations had further revealed that Pak-based operatives were involved in delivery of arms/ammunition, explosives, narcotics etc. to these cadres and workers in the Kashmir valley via drones. Social media platforms were also being widely used by the operatives across the border to connect with OGWs and cadres in Kashmir.
In a related development, NIA on Monday filed a supplementary chargesheet against a Lashker e Taiba/The Resistance Front operative Faisal Muneer, a resident of Jammu. He has been charged with conspiring with Pakistan-based commanders of the outfit for transportation of firearms, explosives and funds to carry out terrorist acts in India. He would receive the weapons, explosives and funds sent from Pakistan via drones and store them at his residence for onward delivery to terrorist operatives and OGWs here.
