NHAI: NHAI spent 1.7 lakh crore on land acquisition in last 5 years | India News

NEW DELHI: The National Highways Authority of India (NHAI) has spent around Rs 1.7 lakh crore in the past five years on land acquisition for NH development. In addition, the state governments have also spent Rs 13,908 crore to share the land acquisition cost, reports Dipak Dash.
Data provided by NHAI, in a written reply to a question raised in RS, show that a maximum of Rs 27,568 crore has been disbursed to land owners in Maharashtra, followed by UP (Rs 23,134 crore) and Kerala (Rs 22,119 crore).NHAI has urged states to contribute to the land acquisition cost for taking up more projects.
The cost of land acquisition, on an average, is around 20% of the overall cost of highway projects – it’s more in the case of expressways.
