NEW DELHI: The final rites of Mukhtar Ansari, who transitioned from mafia to politics, were held on Saturday. His mortal remains were buried near the graves of his parents at Kalibag graveyard.
His body had arrived at his Ghazipur residence on Friday evening amidst heavy police presence.
Mukhtar Ansari, aged 63, experienced a cardiac arrest and passed away while undergoing treatment at Banda medical college.
On Tuesday morning, Mukhtar Ansari was discovered unconscious and subsequently referred to the district hospital after complaining of abdominal pain and constipation. He received medical attention and was discharged 15 hours later.
His brother, Afzal Ansari, who serves as the MP for Ghazipur, visited the hospital on Tuesday and raised suspicions of foul play, alleging that his brother had been poisoned while in custody.
On March 13, Mukhtar Ansari was handed a life sentence in a case pertaining to the fraudulent acquisition of an arms license using forged documents dating back to 1990. This marked the eighth conviction and sentencing of the former MLA by Uttar Pradesh courts within the past two years.
