NEW DELHI: Skymet, India’s private weather forecasting company, on Tuesday predicted ‘normal’ monsoon this year, saying the four-month season is expected to receive rainfall to the extent of 102% (with an error margin of +/- 5% ) of the long-period average (LPA).
Rainfall between 96-104% of the LPA is considered normal. IMD will release its forecast in the next few days.
IMD scientists have already detected early signs of a favourable monsoon season this year with fading El Nino conditions. Monsoon season may start with risk of impairment, attributable to the remnant effects of El Nino. The second half of the season will have an overwhelming edge over the primal phase,” said Jatin Singh, managing director, Skymet.
Skymet expects “sufficiently good rains” in the south, west, and northwest, including Maharashtra and MP. The agency, however, predicted that Bihar, Jharkhand, Odisha and Bengal will be at risk of deficit rainfall during peak monsoon months of July and Aug. tnn
