Anurag Maloo, the 34-year-old mountaineer from Kishangarh in Rajasthan who went missing at Mt Annapurna on Monday, has been rescued after almost 72 hours on Thursday morning. His condition is critical and is undergoing treatment at a private hospital in Pokhara in Nepal. “Anurag has been rescued. He is alive but his condition is critical. Right now the focus is on his treatment,” Sudhir Maloo, Anurag’s cousin, said in a video soon after Anurag was rescued.
On Monday evening, Sudhir left for Nepal with his father (Anurag’s uncle) and Anurag’s younger brother Ashish. An official from Nepal has confirmed to TOI that Anurag was rescued and has been shifted to Manipal Hospital in Pokhran. “He had fallen into a crevasse at 300 metres, from a height of 6,000 metres. We are hoping for his speedy recovery,” the official said.
Residents of Aditya Mill Colony in Kishangarh, where Anurag grew up, started rejoicing as soon as news of Anurag’s rescue reached the town. Maloo is on a mission to climb all 14 peaks above 8,000 metres, and the 7 highest points in all seven continents, to drive action towards achieving the UN Global Goals. He has been awarded the REX Karamaveer Chakra and became the 2041 Antarctic Youth Ambassador from India. This year, he was aiming to conquer Mt Annapurna, Mt Lhotse, and the Everest.
