Malnad: BJP routed in Bombay Karnataka, Malnad but coast defies trend | Karnataka Election News

[ad_1]

Congress’ remarkable performance in Kittur (Mumbai) Karnataka —which comprises Dharwad, Belagavi, Vijayapura, Gadag, Bagalkot, Haveri and Uttar Kannada districts and dominated by the Lingayat community — is a major reason for its drive to a comfortable majority in these elections.
Congress also proved the adage that the party which wins the most seats in this region, will form the government.
Kalyana
In Kalyana (Hyderabad) Karnataka, BJP had won 19 of 41 seats in 2018, but this time it got only 10. Except Humanabad, the four other constituencies where PM Modi visited, have rejected the saffron party, while Gangavathi in Koppal district supported tainted mining baron G Janardhana Reddy and his new Kalyana Rajya Pragati Party (KRPP). However, it must be said that the Kalyana Karnataka region has not been BJP’s stronghold.
Central & Malnad
The warm regard people in this region have for former CM Siddaramaiah and his party has paid results. Of the 13 seats in Chitradurga and Davanagere districts that form central Karnataka, Congress won 11. Meanwhile, the Malnad region too voted out BJP.
In Chikkamagaluru, BJP drew a blank in its citadel, while in neighbouring Shivamogga district — BS Yediyurappa’s home district — BJP lost four segments.
Coastal districts
The coastal districts of Dakshina Kannada and Udupi defied the statewide trend with all 12 BJP candidates emerging victorious with sizable margins.
