NEW DELHI: The Election Commission of India (EC) on Saturday has announced the schedule for the Lok Sabha elections. Maharashtra will vote in five phases for 48 constituencies in the upcoming general elections.

In an effort to ensure a vibrant democratic atmosphere for 96.8 crore voters, Chief Election Commissioner Rajiv Kumar declared that the Lok Sabha elections will be conducted across 7 phases, spanning from April 19 to June 1.Vote counting will take place on June 4th.
Maharashtra ranks second in contributing to the Lower House of the Parliament, following Uttar Pradesh with 80 seats.
The Mahayuti alliance, comprising the BJP, Shiv Sena under Eknath Shinde, and the NCP under Ajit Pawar, has made significant progress in seat allocation discussions after days of intense talks.
In the 2019 Lok Sabha elections, the BJP won 23 out of 25 contested seats, while the undivided Shiv Sena secured 18 out of 23 seats.
The undivided NCP, part of the opposition alliance, contested 19 seats and won four. Following the split in 2022, the Shiv Sena, which had earlier formed a coalition government with the Congress and NCP, saw Eknath Shinde align with the BJP.
The BJP recently announced its candidates for the upcoming Lok Sabha elections in Maharashtra, with heavyweights like Nitin Gadkari contesting from Nagpur and Piyush Goyal making his electoral debut from Mumbai North. Nitin Gadkari is aiming for his third consecutive win from the RSS citadel.
The second list of 72 candidates released by the BJP on Wednesday included 20 candidates for Maharashtra.
