VISAKHAPATNAM: The Energy Efficiency Services Limited of the Union government is planning to deploy latest technologies to further energy efficiency initiatives in Andhra Pradesh. EESL CEO Vishal Kapoor discussed the proposed initiatives with top officials from the state.
Apart from implementation of energy efficiency street lighting and agricultural pump sets, EESL earlier distributed around 2.2 crore LED bulbs in Andhra Pradesh. It is estimated to save around 1700 million units per annum besides huge savings on the finances front.
A Chandra Sekhara Reddy, who has been recently appointed as the senior advisor of EESL, said that the EESL distributed over 36.86 crore LED bulbs, 72.18 lakh LED tube lights and 23.59 lakh energy efficient fans across the country.
“This has resulted in estimated energy savings of 48.42 billion kWh per year with avoided peak demand of 9,789 MW. This has led to greenhouse gas emission reduction of 39.30 million tonnes of CO2 per year and estimated annual monetary savings of Rs 19,333 crore in consumer electricity bills,” said the EESL senior advisor.
Chandra Sekhara Redd, who retired as the Andhra Pradesh State Energy Conservation Mission CEO in May, was instrumental in creating ‘Andhra Model’ of sorts in driving the centre’s ambitious agenda in conserving energy, thereby providing economic benefits, and also mitigating climate change effect.
According to Chandra Sekhara Reddy, he has been assigned development activities of EESL in governments/departments of Andhra Pradesh, Karnataka, Kerala, Tamil Nadu, Telangana, Puducherry, Lakshadweep, and Andaman and Nicobar Islands.
“I thank Chief Minister YS Jagan Mohan Reddy, energy minister Peddireddi Ramachandra Reddy. I also thank chief secretary KS Jawahar Reddy and special chief secretary (energy) K Vijayanand and other key departments like panchayat raj, municipal administration etc., for their support during my tenure in AP power sector,” said Reddy.
Meanwhile, the EESL is planning to bolster the market towards energy efficient fans. As part of this initiative, about 10 million energy efficient fans (both 3-star rated, and 5-star rated) will be deployed across India, including Andhra Pradesh, from September 2023.
This strategic initiative by EESL is designed to support the country’s ‘nationally determined contribution’ targets by encouraging widespread adoption of energy efficient fans. This transition is ultimately expected to help all the stakeholders in saving energy, reducing electricity bills, and contributing to the nation’s sustainable energy management.
