Kumar Birla, Kalyanpur, Krishna receive Padma awards | India News

New Delhi: Former Karnataka chief minister and BJP leader S M Krishna, noted industrialist Kumar Mangalam Birla, and playback singer Suman Kalyanpur were among those who were conferred the Padma awards by President Droupadi Murmu at a civil investiture ceremony at Rashtrapati Bhavan on Wednesday.
Apart from Krishna, the Padma Vibhushan was also conferred on noted architect Balkrishna Doshi, known for using minimalistic, simple and eco-friendly approach to architecture, posthumously. Doshi’s grand daughter received the award on his behalf. Tabla maestro Zakir Hussain, who was also on the list of Padma Vibhushan awardees, however, was not present.
Of the 106 Padma Awards announced by President Murmu on Republic Day, over 50 people were conferred the awards on Wednesday.
6 distinguished persons this year were conferred with the Padma Vibhushan while 9 were conferred with Padma Bhushan. Another 91 persons were conferred with Padma Shri.
PM Modi and HM Amit Shah were in attendance during the ceremony.
