Kashmir freezing; Srinagar records season’s coldest night at minus 2.6°C | India News

SRINAGAR: Kashmir Valley is in the grip of a severe cold wave, with temperature in Srinagar dipping to season’s lowest of -2.6°C on the intervening night of Wednesday and Thursday.
A meteorological department official said the mercury is expected to drop further by 1-2°C during the next three days across all the stations, before there’s some respite from the freezing cold conditions till December 15.
Till December 10-11, the weather in J&K is expected to remain dry, although it will be generally cloudy, said the official. From December 12-15, there will be light rain/snow at isolated places in the higher reaches.
The minimum temperature of -2.6°C in Srinagar, against -2.0°C on the previous night, was 2.0°C below normal for this time of the year, the official said.
Qazigund recorded a minimum of -2.2°C against -2.0°C on the previous night, which was 1.4°C below normal for the gateway town of Kashmir. Pahalgam was the coldest in Kashmir, with the night temperature dipping to a low of -4.9°C, although it was slightly higher for the resort town than the
-5.1°C recorded the previous night.
Kokernag in south Kashmir recorded a minimum of -1.4°C against -0.5°C on the previous night, while Kupwara in north Kashmir recorded a low of
-3.1°C against -2.7°C on the previous night.
Gulmarg saw a low of -2.5°C against minus -2.6°C on the previous night, which was 1.2°C above normal for the skiing resort in north Kashmir.
Jammu recorded a minimum of 9.6°C against 9.9°C on previous night, which was 0.4°C below normal for the winter capital of J&K, the weather official said.
