KHANAPUR/GANGAVATHI: Promises rained as campaigning for the May 10 assembly elections continued at a hectic pace in Karnataka on Sunday.
While AICC member Priyanka Gandhi-Vadra campaigned in Khanapur, Belagavi district, Uttar Pradesh chief minister Yogi Adityanath addressed a rally on behalf of BJP candidate Paranna Munavalli in Gangavathi (Koppal district).
Priyanka Gandhi’s scathing attack on Karnataka government, accuses BJP government of looting Rs 1.5 lakh crore
However, promises made by the two functionaries were on opposite ends of the spectrum.
Besides the party’s five big pre-poll promises, Priyanka said Congress will raise salaries of anganwadi and ASHA workers if the party forms the government. She said, pay for Anganwadi workers will be increased up to Rs 15,000 while for mini anganwadi workers it will go up to Rs 10,000. She also promised to increase paychecks of ASHA workers to Rs 8,000 and midday meal workers to Rs 5,000.
Priyanka claimed the BJP government had looted Rs 1. 5 lakh crore from Karnataka. She claimed that with that kind of money, 100 AIIMS hospitals or 2,250km of six-lane expressways or 137 ESI hospitals could have been built.
“The loot is so big that 30lakh houses or 30,000 smart classrooms could have been constructed. Now it is up to you, if you want the same government to continue or want a change,” she said.
Meanwhile, UP CM Adityanath promised voters rail connectivity between Gangavathi, believed to be the birthplace of lord Hanuman, to Ayodhya Ram Mandir.

He said construction of the Sri Ram Mandir in Ayodhya is going on rapidly and it will be inaugurated in 2024.
“The Karnataka government has already given a grant of Rs 120 crore for the development of Anjanadri Hills, the birthplace of Lord Hanuman. The central government will provide a rail link from Gangavathi to Ayodhya to facilitate darshan of Anjaneya and Rama,” he said.
