NEW DELHI: Lalit Jha, identified as the fifth accused and the alleged mastermind behind the breach of security at the Parliament, reportedly destroyed the mobile phones belonging to himself and his associates including his friend Mahesh. After escaping to Kuchaman in Rajasthan, according to sources within the police.
Prior to the incident, all four suspects had handed over their mobile devices to Jha in anticipation of their impending arrest, aiming to prevent crucial investigation details from falling into the hands of law enforcement.
In Kuchaman, Jha connected with his friend Mahesh, whom he had met through Facebook, as disclosed by Jha during his interrogation. However, the Delhi police are currently in the process of verifying the accuracy of Jha’s statements.On the day of the incident Jha, was present outside the parliament, he recorded a video of two of his accomplices with the intention of publicising it.
Before Jha’s surrender, the police employed technical surveillance on detained Mahesh’s cousin, Kailash, who revealed that Mahesh and Lalit had gone to Delhi. Later on Jha’s return, he was arrested.
According to Delhi Police, “Lalit Jha came to the police station on his own, after which the police arrested him and commenced the interrogation.”
Meanwhile, on Thursday, Delhi’s Patiala House Court granted a seven-day custodial remand for all four accused individuals linked to the Parliament security breach case.

Additional Sessions Judge Dr Hardeep Kaur permitted the accused, namely Manoranjan D, Sagar Sharma, Amol Dhanraj Shinde, and Neelam Devi, to travel to Mumbai, Mysore, and Lucknow for further investigation to uncover the true motives behind their actions.
The Delhi Police revealed that the accused had acquired specialized shoes from Lucknow and canisters from Mumbai.
The police emphasized that the incident was a meticulously planned conspiracy and an attack on the Parliament of India. Legal representatives for the police informed the court that the accused were in possession of a pamphlet declaring Prime Minister Modi as a missing person, promising a reward from the Swiss Bank to anyone who located him.

The accused depicted the Prime Minister as if he were a proclaimed offender. The police registered the FIR under various sections of the Indian Penal Code and added sections 16 (terrorism) and 18 (conspiracy for terrorism) of the UAPA Act.
