GUWAHATI: IPS officer, who is currently posted as superintendent of police in Assam’s Lakhimpur district and a part of the Special Investigation Team on Manipur ethnic clash, has tendered his resignation from the service to pursue a life of “freedom and independence”.
The IPS officer Anand Mishra submitted the resignation letter to the Assam chief secretary through the DGP on December 18. However, the matter has come to light now.
“This is to submit my unconditional resignation from the IPS to pursue a life of freedom and independence that I want to realise through various social services and other means that are beyond the mandate of IPS,” he wrote in the letter. He stated in the letter that he wants to resign from the service with effect from January 16, 2024.
The 2011-batch IPS officer of Assam-Meghalaya cadres was recently posted to Manipur to be part of the SIT probing the violence in the state.
Mishra is a social media sensation, dubbed “Assam’s Singham” by users. Talking to the media, he said, “I have served for about 12 years. The uniform is my first and last love. I devoted these 12 years to serve the people. But the thing is that there are certain set of conduct rules staying within which you have to work when you stay in such a job. My dream is to work for the betterment of people of my home state of Bihar, which I can do only by staying outside the service. That is the reason why I tendered the resignation.”
Except that, he said, there are no other reasons behind taking the decision. “I would even appeal to others not to take me as an example. I would also appeal to people to follow their passion,” he added.
Talking about his future plans, he said his native village in Bihar is lagging development and therefore, he feels that people of his native village want him to work for betterment of their life.
However, sources said that he might join BJP in his home state Bihar and might contest the Lok Sabha elections to be held early next year.
