PUNE: An IndiGo flight from Pune to Bengaluru with more than 100 passengers had to return back to Pune following a technical snag on Saturday morning.
Sources said that the aircraft, an Airbus A321 had taken off from the city airport at around 7:40am instead of its scheduled time of 7:25am. However, around 20 minutes into the flight after take-off, it turned back to Pune and landed safely. The aircraft had attained an altitude of around 800 feet after take-off and it circled around the city once before landing back in Pune.
“There was a technical problem in the flight and it had to come back. There was a delay of around 2 hours. Afterwards, the same aircraft carried all passengers to Bengaluru. The flyers were taken care of by the airline,” a source in the airline, which presently is operating more than 50% flights from Pune, said.
The airline officials didn’t mention anything on the kind and nature of the technical problem which had happened. Flyers however claimed that the decision to turn back the aircraft back to Pune wasn’t informed to them. “No updates shared by crew…just that it would take 45 minutes… passengers are still seated patiently…I fear after 45 minutes they will say we need to accommodate you on another aircraft/airline…’” a flyer said on social media.
In response, the airline apologized to the flyer stating that certain unanticipated challenges could come on the way and disrupt operations. The representative added that the revised departure time was at 9am.
The airline officials didn’t comment when asked whether passengers were shifted to the terminal building in Pune after the flight landed or were made to sit in the aircraft for the whole time.
