India’s aid to Palestine has come not a moment too soon | India News

NEW DELHI: India has sought to balance its support to Israel on the issue of Hamas terrorism by expressing concern over mounting civilian casualties, underlining the significance of international humanitarian law and reiterating its long-standing support for a sovereign, independent and viable Palestine state.
In his talks with President Mahmoud Abbas, PM Modi had told him that Indian will continue to provide humanitarian assistance to Palestine. India’s aid has come not a moment too soon as the Arab world, the West and even neighbours like Bangladesh and Pakistan line up humanitarian assistance for the Palestinians.
India has otherwise supported Palestine through its contributions to the UN Relief and Works Agency for Palestine Refugees in the Near East (UNRWA). India is a member of its advisory commission since 2020.
“India increased its annual contribution to UNRWA from $1.2 million to $5 million in 2018. Since 2002, India has contributed a total of $36.5 million to UNRWA till 2022- 23,” said an official.
