Himanta: Himanta Biswa Sarma threatens to sue Arvind Kejriwal if he calls the Assam CM corrupt | India News

GUWAHATI: Assam chief minister Himanta Biswa Sarma on Friday said he will sue Delhi CM Arvind Kejriwal and file a defamation case if Kejriwal utters a single word calling him (Himanta) corrupt.
Kejriwal is coming to Guwahati on April 2 to address a mass rally at the invitation of the state unit of AAP along with Punjab CM Bhagwant Mann. Kejriwal had recently alleged in the Delhi assembly that Himanta joined BJP to save himself from going to jail and also accused him of being involved in corrupt practices during his stint as Congress minister.
“Is there any case or FIR against me? I wanted to file a defamation case but Arvind Kejriwal, like a coward, spoke inside the assembly (accusing Himanta). So let him come to Assam on 2nd (April 2) and say that there is a case against Himanta Biswa Sarma. I will sue him right away,” Sarma told the media here on Friday.
“You should not speak against somebody in the Delhi assembly where you know I am not there to defend. What is the case against me?” he asked.
Sarma said somebody has misled all people that there is a case against him. “In entire India, there is no case against me, except some cases filed by Congress people in various courts,” Sarma said, asserting that there is no case against him before any agency or police station.
Himanta called Rahul Gandhi a morally corrupt man who is misguiding AICC president Mallikarjun Kharge. “I did not think Rahul Gandhi is morally so corrupt,” he said. Sarma said in 2013, it was Rahul who tore off an ordinance brought by the then UPA government led by Manmohan Singh to shield convicted lawmakers from immediate disqualification.
“At that point of time when Dr Manmohan Singh tried to bring some amendment, then Rahul publicly denounced Manmohan. But today, when Mallikarjun Kharge is doing the same thing (convicted MLA should not be disqualified), Rahul is not giving any warning to Kharge. At that time (2013), it was about Lalu Yadav and so Rahul opposed that. This time is about himself, so he is not giving warning to Kharge,” Sarma said.
